LONGUEUIL, Que. - Fire swept through an apartment building near Montreal on Friday afternoon, leaving as many as 48 families homeless.
Firefighters contained the blaze, which spread quickly through the apartment building in the Longueuil borough of Saint-Hubert, just south of Montreal.
No one was seriously injured but some people lost all of their belongings.
The building's superintendent noticed the fire in a ceiling of one of the units and tried to put it out.
Unsuccessful, he told reporters that he helped empty the building.
