Firefighters have moved from rescue to body recovery mode in the search for a young man who was swept away in the Bow River.
Two fire boats swept the river yesterday in a search for the 17-year-old teen’s body after he fell into the river off a sewer pipe in Carburn Park, where he was walking with his girlfriend and her brother around 5:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Jeff Budai, spokesman for the Calgary Fire Department, said the aquatic crew would be continuing its search with boats because the area is too big to search with divers.
The teenager fell into the water after reportedly walking along a piece of sewage pipe sticking out of the riverbank.
The young male was reported to have been wearing blue jeans and a red shirt.
Residents are asked to phone police or the fire department if they see anything suspicious in the water.
