Metro: What was your first job, and what did you learn from it that you are still using today?

“My first job was pumping gas at Peacock’s service station. Owner Ralph Peacock was quite a character but he taught me something about customer service that has stuck with me over the years. ‘Davey,’ he said ‘remember you can only serve one customer at a time.’ He meant I should not allow myself to be distracted by many customers. It was a valuable lesson. Focusing on each and every customer as an important person is something that I have stressed in every job I have had since.”
