A 55-year-old fisherman was discovered dead in the water not far from his boat Monday evening near Mitchell Bay, on the Eastern Shore close to Ecum Secum.
The man had gone out lobster fishing earlier in the day and when he didn’t return home, authorities were called. As the coast guard was preparing to send up a Cormorant helicopter, the man’s boat was found.
“Shortly after he was reported missing there was actually a coast guard boat in the area,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Joe Taplin.
The deceased man was found nearby in the water wearing a survival suit. Police do not believe the death was suspicious but are waiting for the medical examiner to determine the exact cause of death.
His name has not yet been released.
