Apple is allowing users to download some of its most popular and expensive apps and games for free on Wednesday as part of the App store’s fifth anniversary.

Iphone and iPad users can click on the “5 Years of the App Store” banner to get free games such as “Badland” ($3.99) and “Infinity Blade II”($6.99) as well as the apps “How to Cook Everything” ($9.99), “Barefoot World Atlas”($5.99) and even “Traktor DJ,” a professional DJ app that typically costs almost $20. This sale will run until the end of this week.

The App Store was released to the public on July 10, 2008, one year after the release of the first iPhone. At the time, the store offered a mere 553 apps ranging from $1 to $10 . Since then the App Store has held over 900,000 apps, sold more than 50 billion of them and is used in 153 countries.

You have to wonder what the next 5 years will bring.
