Flames 2, Avalanche 6
The Skinny: Following a 3-2 setback to the Phoenix Coyotes at home on Saturday night, the Calgary Flames didn’t have much time to regroup for a road game in Denver the next evening and dropped their second straight decision.
The Motivation: After losing all four previous games they played against the Flames this season, the Avalache were fired up and built a 2-0 lead through one period on their way to snapping a three-game streak of setbacks.
The Milestones: Colorado forwards Ryan Smyth and Milan Hejduk both notched their 300th career goals in the second period to the delight of the hometown fans at the Pepsi Center.
The Quote: “It’s obviously an honour to play in the NHL, and to accomplish 300 goals in this league is an awesome feeling,” Smyth told Rogers Sportsnet.
The Century Mark: Defenceman Mark Giordano and forward Dustin Boyd both played in their 100th career games with the Flames.
The Next Game: The Flames host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday.
