Fly, my pretties, to this Oz-some new production

Neptune Theatre is following the yellow brick road to Oz for its holiday blowout this year.

A cast of singers, dancers, children and a real dog will rip through the 1939 musical version of L. Frank Baum’s tale of a tornado-tossed idealist, Dorothy (Blair Irwin), stranded in a strange land populated by witches, scarecrows, tin men and cowardly lions as she tries to make her way back to Kansas.

The cast breaks out show-stopping versions of Over The Rainbow, If I Only Had A Brain and We’re Off To See The Wizard during its quest to the Emerald City and the Great and Powerful Oz (Jeremy Webb).

Webb says it’s tricky to give people what they want, yet bring your own energy to the classic story. Webb has directed and acted in the play before, including a previous turn as the Lion.

“The underlying message is for whatever you need in your life, you need only look as far as your backyard and it’s probably there — if you chose to unearth it,” he says. “I think (people) identify with that.”
