Biron made 20 stops to record his 30th win of the campaign. He also posted back-to-back shutouts for the second time this year and led the club to season-ending shutout wins for the first time in franchise history.
Scottie Upshall and Mike Knuble tallied while Jeff Carter added a pair of assists for the Flyers, who completed their schedule with seven wins in their last nine games and ended the year at 42-29-11. With the victory, the club vaulted over Boston and Ottawa into the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference.
Devils 3 Rangers 2 (SO) — Patrik Elias scored the winning goal in the shootout, as the New Jersey Devils tuned up for a first-round playoff series against the New York Rangers with a 3-2 victory at the Prudential Center.
The Devils and Rangers will meet in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, starting Wednesday in New Jersey. Home-ice advantage was up for grabs entering yesterday’s regular-season finale, but the Rangers needed to win in regulation and couldn’t do so after falling behind by two goals.
Avalanche 4 Wild 3 (SO) — Wojtek Wolski scored the game-deciding goal in the shootout, as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Minnesota Wild, 4-3, in the regular-season finale at the Pepsi Center.
In the first round of the shootout, Wolski skated in on Josh Harding and faked the backhander before pulling the puck back to the forehand and tucking it into the net. After Jose Theodore turned aside Petteri Nummelin’s offering, Joe Sakic snapped a wrister past the glove of Harding. Pierre-Marc Bouchard had a chance to extend the shootout for Minnesota, but his shot was stopped by the left pad of Theodore.
Sakic added a goal and an assist in regulation for the Avalanche, who clinched the sixth seed in the Western Conference and will face the Wild in the first round.
Red Wings 4 Blackhawks 1 — Nicklas Lidstrom scored a pair of goals to lift the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks in the regular-season finale at Joe Louis Arena.
Stars 4 Sharks 2 — Mattias Norstrom’s late-second-period goal was the game-winner as Dallas rallied with four unanswered goals to double up San Jose, 4-2, in the season-finale for both teams at American Airlines Center.
Blues 4 Blue Jackets 1 —Hannu Toivonen turned aside 35 shots, and the St. Louis Blues swept a home-and-home series from the Columbus Blue Jackets with a 4-1 win in the last game of the season for both clubs.
