The Calgary Stampede is more than just mini donuts and cotton candy; it’s crickets and crocodiles too — on pizza, that is.
If you can think of it, they probably have it, according to midway manager James Radke.
“We pretty much have everything from A to Z, and there is bound to be something for everyone and a variety of healthy alternatives too,” Radke said.
Besides cricket and crocodile pizza, which Radke said has been popular with visitors, also new to the Stampede menu this year are deep-fried jelly beans and grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
“Everyone is really excited and the new options have been quite popular already,” he said.
Radke said there are also healthier alternatives like wraps and Booster Juice, but pointed out park staples like mini donuts, cotton candy and, back by popular demand, deep-fried Oreos.
“Oh, they are hot this year, people love them. And we have bigger sizes now.”
While visitor Mandy Casavant, 31, said she won’t be trying the crocodile and cricket pizza anytime soon, she said she loves the other new additions.
“The Oreos are so good, but I try to limit how many I eat,” Casavant said.
“I love the jelly beans and, of course, anything else they deep fry. I think it’s the best part of the Stampede.”
Visitors can also try the new wiggle chips and tornado potatoes, Radke said.
