The Canadian Forces are closing Magazine Hill for an hour Friday morning so they can blow up an “unstable” Second World War-era ordnance.

Mike Bonin, spokesman for Canadian Forces Halifax, said the five-inch projectile found at the ammunition depot in Bedford was a type of ammunition used by ship guns in the war.

“It dates back to when they had the magazine fire in the ’40s,” Bonin said.

“These items do unfortunately pop up from time to time.”

Explosive-ordinance specialists will destroy it Friday at 9:30 a.m. and Magazine Hill will be closed for an hour in both directions from Akerley Boulevard to Dartmouth Road.
