Forging their own Anthem

The Gaslight Anthem’s musical influences were prevalent on their first two albums, so members of the New Jersey band wanted to put their own style into their latest album, American Slang.

Guitarist Alex Rosamilia said he thinks they pulled it off.

“We were really trying to make a statement with this one as far as finding our own sound and figuring out who we are as a band, instead of just pooling our influences together and making a goulash out of our favourite bands,” he said from his tour bus.

The Gaslight Anthem will be coming to Edmonton on Sept. 8 on one of the many stops on their fall tour through North America.

Rosamilia said being on the road suits him just fine.

“I think the biggest necessity if you want to be a successful musician is to get on the road. If not, go home,” he said.

“I love it (the road). I love travelling and seeing stuff. It’s for me. I feel more comfortable on the road then I do at home, actually.”

The Gaslight Anthem will be playing an all-ages show at the Edmonton Events Centre with guests the Menzingers and Fake Problems.
