Former Moose crosses line, gets banned

Spencer Metcalfe was slapped with a two-game suspension, cost his team $500, and owes one of his peers an apology.

Spencer Metcalfe was slapped with a two-game suspension, cost his team $500, and owes one of his peers an apology.

The former Halifax Mooseheads defenceman, now with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, earned the punishment for “inappropriate comments” directed toward Lewiston Maineiacs defenceman Olivier Dame-Malka during a game on Tuesday in Sydney.

“Our policy is based on the principle of zero tolerance and it applies to all comments which are deemed inappropriate,” commissioner Gilles Courteau said in a press release.

The Screaming Eagles must pay the $500 fine and Metcalfe must contact Dame-Malka to apologize, the press release stated.
