Former Subways star nets NHL tryout with Minnesota

Former Dartmouth Subways star Michael Kirkpatrick has landed an NHL tryout with the Minnesota Wild.

The Saint John Sea Dogs forward, originally from North Sydney, will make his bid for a contract at an NHL prospects tournament in Traverse City, Mich., from Sept. 6 to 10.

Kirkpatrick, 19, has been passed over in back-to-back drafts but produced 34 goals and 30 assists for 64 points in 67 games in a breakthrough campaign with the Sea Dogs.

“Getting drafted is one way to get to the next level and tryouts are another way,” Kirkpatrick told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal. “I’m going to go hard and try to impress them.”
