Four Cdn soldiers injured in IED blast in Afghansitan’s volatile south

ZANGABAD, Afghanistan – Four Canadian soldiers suffered minor injuries when their vehicle rolled over an improvised explosive device in southern Afghanistan.

Military officials say the soldiers were clearing a dirt road of mines around 2:45 p.m. local time when the blast occurred.

It happened in the area of Zangabad in the volatile Panjwaii district, some 35 kilometres southwest of Kandahar city.

The soldiers were evacuated by helicopter to hospital at Kandahar Airfield where two remain under observation.

Spokesman Lt.-Cdr. Pierre Babinsky says the two others were released.

IEDs have been responsible for the majority of the 76 combat deaths suffered by Canadian soldiers since the mission began in 2002.
