French duo to show expertise in graffiti

Graffiti as high art? A duo from France will show Halifax how it’s done tomorrow.

Kanos and Astro, known as Cellograff, are a pair of artists who use cellophane to display their artwork as graffiti, not vandalism.

In an email interview, Kanos said he always loved drawing and discovered mural painting while studying in art school.

But finding a medium for his work was a little tricky.

“We tried different materials like plastic bags and adhesive tape,” he said. “We finally found cellophane!”

He said his most memorable work was stretching cellophane between two pillars at Bir Hakeim bridge in Paris with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

Kanos said he doesn’t know what he will create when he paints on Friday at the Grand Parade for the Hopscotch hip-hop festival.
