Fringe Festival invites all to come as they are

It’s unscripted, inspired, profound — and it features a middle-aged naked lady.

The Human Body Project is one of 27 performances taking place in Inglewood at the Calgary Fringe Festival, which begins tomorrow and runs until next Saturday.

The Human Body Project features its creator, a mother of two girls and Lethbridge College teacher, Tasha Diamant.

Naked.

“I start by saying I’m not an actress. This is awkward. We’re all in this together. Then we see what happens,” said Diamant.

People are initially uncomfortable, she said, but they become vulnerable, too — which is what Diamant is after.

“I don’t live in a war zone. I’m not an abused spouse. But I can create a situation where I’m vulnerable and then we can all experience it,” she said.

“We live in a precarious world. We’re vulnerable, but I don’t think we really understand it. We need to get it.”

Diamant was inspired to begin her project in 2006 following the birth of her first daughter.

“If there is anything I can do to help the world my children are inheriting, I feel like I have to do it.”

Tickets can be purchased at calgaryfringe.ca, the Information Booth, or the venue.
