Fringe Theatre offering adventures for all ages

For those who wish for the Fringe all year round, Fringe Theatre Adventures announced its new performance lineup for the 2010-2011 theatre season at the TransAlta Arts Barns yesterday.

While the Adventures in Fringe Theatre is an adult lineup of plays, and runs from October 2010 to March 2011, the Adventures in Family Theatre offers entertainment that both kids and parents can enjoy and runs at the TransAlta Arts Barns from December 2010 to April 2011.

“In addition to our Family Adventure series, we are giving our adult audiences a little Fringe love by kicking off our Fringe Adventure series this October with a heart-stopping thriller for Halloween,” said Thomas Scott, programming director for Fringe Theater Adventures.

For the adults, three new plays have been added to the lineup: Any Night, a dark mystery about a young woman with night terrors who develops a relationship with a young man living above her; Mozart: Ze Komplete Hystery, a combination of music and comedy based on the life of Mozart; and An Evening with Uncle Val, a sarcastic comedy about a 70-year-old man who gets trapped in St. John’s, N.L.

This is part of Fringe Theatre Adventures’ commitment to bring theatre and young people together, Scott said.

“Each of our Family Adventure presentations offers special performances for Edmonton-area schoolchildren to attend.”

Three new plays have also been added to the listings of family performances: Jack and the Beanstalk, a musical rendition of this classic fairy tale; The Barber of Barhead, a tale of life during the gold-rush featuring the Edmonton Opera; and Les Parfait Inconnus, a play about six characters trying to outdo each other’s outrageous antics featuring electrifying music, circus acts and comedy.

Tickets can be purchased online at fringetheatre.ca or by calling the box office at 780-409-1910.
