From rookies to seasoned vets

What do aldermen Brian Pincott, Jim Stevenson, John Mar and Joe Connelly all have in common?

They were all rookie aldermen, elected to council in 2007.

With the exception of Ward 6 alderman Joe Connelly, who is gunning for the mayor’s office in October, Mar, Pincott and Stevenson are all seeking re-election in their respective wards and all of them have learned a lot in the past three years.

“The learning curve is steep,” said Mar — a sentiment echoed by Stevenson. Having been a veteran campaigner, Ward 11’s Pincott said he knew what to expect.

“It’s pretty much what I thought it would be, but I think the thing I learned most is you can’t make everyone happy. No matter what you do there will be people who aren’t,” Pincott added.

All three aldermen running again said while they faced many ups, downs and challenges, they are all excited to run again and do an even better job, and they all had advice for incoming council members.

“Prepare to hit the ground running.”
