Fund set up for orphan

Seven-week-old baby Ysa is expected to recover from injuries she sustained in a car accident that claimed the lives of her young parents, and the family has since set up a trust fund for the young girl.

Ysa’s family members say it’s “nothing short of a miracle” the baby was the sole survivor in the vehicle, and said Merin’s sister will likely care for the baby.

“They were very close and the family will take care of her now. Everyone has come together and has been so wonderful during this difficult time,” Merin’s father, David Litchfield, told Metro yesterday.

Litchfield said they are relieved Ysa is expected to recover from her head injuries as she remains in hospital under care of doctors.

“She’s been sitting up and doing baby things so it’s a good sign and they think she will be OK, but time will tell as she gets older. It’s just amazing she survived,” he said, adding the family is remaining optimistic.

“She is our focus right now.”

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
