Furlan family paints deceased woman as loving mom

The family of a woman found dead on the weekend want their sister to be remembered as a loving mother, not a woman with drug problems, as she has been made out to be.

Lisa Diaz and Michelle Furlan spoke to media yesterday about their sister Laura Furlan, 38, who was found dead in Fish Creek Park on Monday. Police are treating her death as suspicious, but they haven’t confirmed it a homicide.

“She had so much love for her son. He reads the papers and so do his friends and he is very distressed.

He is a teenaged boy,” Furlan said of media reports the woman had a history of drug addictions. “He has to go to school on Monday.”

Instead, her family said the focus should be on what a loving person she was, with “an infectious laugh.”
“She had a job in oil and gas, she was a normal person. She liked to cook; she liked to read … she loved animals.”

Police are asking for anyone with information to come forward as they try to determine what happened.
