Milwaukee Brewers closer Eric Gagne has been diagnosed with rotator cuff tendinitis, and will not throw again until Sunday at the earliest, the team announced yesterday.
The Canadian hurler visited with Dr. William Raasch yesterday and received a cortisone injection.
He suffered the injury in the ninth inning of Tuesday’s 7-2 win over the Pirates and left the game with two outs after surrendering a two-run home run to Jason Bay.
The 32-year-old right-hander, born in Mascouche, Que is 1-2 with a 6.98 earned run average and 10 saves in 20 games for the Brewers this season.
With Gagne out, former Pirates reliever Salomon Torres will get most of the Brewers’ save opportunities. He lost his job as the Pirates’ closer after blowing six of 18 save opportunities last season.
