Gala to bloom for cure

Flower power can help find a cure for breast cancer.

On Oct. 17, the first annual Love of the Bloom gala will see the Canada Government Conference Centre covered in floral masterworks, with proceeds from the event benefiting the Quebec and Canadian Breast Cancer Foundations.

The evening will have “music and dancing, feast and frolicking” said Amanda Forsyth principal cellist with the National Arts Centre Orchestra and honorary chair for the gala, but it’s also about sharing good fortune and raising money to help “all the precious women in our lives who may have been affected by breast cancer.”

“In the past decade extremely encouraging statistics show that close to nine out of 10 women with breast cancer survive,” she said. “Our support to the breast cancer foundation will help the movement of hope and progress to bloom. Let’s make it 10 out of 10.”

Along with incredible bouquets consisting of thousands of flowers, 25 dresses all made of flowers will be featured in an accompanying show. Even the food prepared by Bytown Caterers will have a floral inspiration.
