Gas leak blocks traffic

A natural gas leak briefly stopping traffic in Bedford on Thursday morning was brought under control.

A natural gas leak briefly stopping traffic in Bedford on Thursday morning was brought under control.

At about 8 a.m., a backhoe operator digging in front of a new home on Capstone Crescent off the Hammonds Plains Road accidentally cut into a small natural gas line, the CBC reports.

Emergency crews were called in to pinch off the line and stop the leak. Traffic was blocked for about an hour and a few drywall workers were evacuated. There were no injuries.

The gas line had just been installed earlier this week, it was reported.
