Gas prices pump up

Tatiana Kerr has a car. But yesterday, the 23-year-old was standing out at a bus stop on Albert Street, something she’s been doing more of lately.

Rising gas prices have impelled Kerr to keep her car parked in favour of walking, or taking the bus, when she can.

“I’m a student, so the less I have to fill the tank, the better,” she said.

Gas prices continued to rise in Ottawa over the weekend, with the median price being 112.3 at dozens of gas stations across the city and, according to ottawagasprices.com, running as high as 112.9 at the Petro-Canada on 9th Line Road.

“We do get people complaining about the gas prices,” said Ahmed A., who works at the Petro-Canada on Bronson and Gladstone. “They’ll say that gas is more here than in Gatineau … but for the most part, they’ll suck it up. There’s not much they can do about it.”

Lisa Whitt occasionally drives, but has found a way to avoid being affected by rising gas prices. The Ottawa resident uses the car-sharing service Vrtucar “for convenience, because we don’t have to pay gas or maintenance,” she said.

Although Brad Fisher said the prices are high, he said it doesn’t affect his driving habits. “I don’t drive that much,” he said.
