Last Saturday night saw more big name celebrities partaking of Vancouver’s culinary hot spots as both Laurence Fishburne (Mission Impossible III) and Cole Hauser (The Break-Up) enjoyed dinner and drinks at Cin Cin Ristorante & Bar.
ELEGY STARS IN GASTOWN: Meanwhile, last night, Vancouverites witnessed sequences for the feature Elegy being shot on Abbott Street in Gastown. From approximately 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., both interior and exterior scenes were filmed at Jules Restaurant, as members of the cast entered and dialogued inside. Based on the novel by author Philip Roth, Elegy stars actress Penélope Cruz as Consuela Castillo, along with actors Ben Kingsley, Dennis Hopper and Patricia Clarkson. In the story, cultural critic David Kepesh (Kingsley) finds his life thrown into tragic disarray when Castillo, a well-mannered student, awakens a forbidden sense of sexuality in him.
FLASH GORDON SHOOTS IN LANGLEY: Over in Langley, Sci Fi Channel’s re-imagination of Flash Gordon has been hard at work. The production has been filming sequences at Robert William Park, and last Friday circus vehicles were spotted parked behind the Price Smart. The 22-episode series stars Canadian actor and former Smallville star Eric Johnson as the titular character, first drawn in Alex Raymond’s famous 1934 Flash Gordon comic strip.
LOST BOYS SEQUEL RUMOURED: There are a few new projects hitting town between now and June to tell you about: First up is the Canadian feature Control Alt Delete, which kicked off production last week; Far Cry, the latest in a seemingly endless list of video game adaptations being helmed by filmmaker (and sometimes pugilist) Uwe Boll; and, finally, unconfirmed rumours of a sequel to 1987’s The Lost Boys, with the tentative — and alleged — title, The Lost Boys 2 — The Tribe.
