Gates on DADT: Not optimistic

Defense Secretary Robert Gates told thousands of sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln yesterday that he didn’t think Congress would lift a ban on gays serving openly in the military by year’s end.

MUSCAT – Defense Secretary Robert Gates told thousands of sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln yesterday that he didn’t think Congress would lift a ban on gays serving openly in the military by year’s end. “I’d have to say, I’m not particularly optimistic that they’re going to get this done,” Gates said.
