Held in Ottawa for the first time, this weekend’s Genie Awards was a huge success, organizers said.
“This is one of the most bilingual cities in the country, and the Genies reflect that in both languages … for us, this was the perfect setting for the Genies,” said Genie spokesperson Chris McDowall yesterday. “You couldn’t turn on a radio, or a TV or open up a newspaper without seeing something about the Genie Awards.”
Aided by a strong and diverse group of winners and nominees and with films in Hindi and the Inuit language, Ottawa made for the perfect setting for the awards, said McDowall.
Although traditionally, the awards show is held in Toronto, the organizers said they don’t know where the next show will be, but would not rule out a return to Ottawa.
