Get in a fashion state of mind with these fall reads

Just in time for the upcoming collections, three major fashion books are due to hit stores this fall. And in remembrance of past fashion hits, there’s a classic book in the mix.

Blow by Blow by Detmar Blow and Tom Sykes (Harper Collins)
Arguably the most anticipated of the bunch, Blow by Blow is a biography of tragic fashion icon Isabella Blow written by her husband, Detmar Blow, and Tom Sykes. The book will cover her life from the beginning up until her suicide, and include moments from her legendary career, which included stints as Anna Wintour’s assistant at American Vogue, fashion director of Tatler and the impetus to Alexander McQueen’s career.

Manolo’s New Shoes by Manolo Blahnik (Monacelli Press)
Manolo’s New Shoes, by the man himself, features 130 drawings of his work in addition to written contributions from Suzy Menkes, Amy Fine Collins and Grace Coddington, to name a few. Blahnik will be signing copies of the book at Liberty of London during Fashion’s Night Out.

Luella’s Guide To English Style by Luella Bartley (Fourth Estate Ltd.)
A former journalist, Luella Bartley returns to her roots with Luella’s Guide to English Fashion. As the title suggests, it explores Britain’s great fashion moments from cords to Kate Moss. The author explains it best: “My aim is … (to) show my unerring appreciation and devotion to those contrived subtleties, and that blatant contrariness that makes British women so staggeringly adept in the art of expression through style…”

The Beautiful Fall by Alicia Drake (Back Bay Books)
No fashion lover’s coffee table is complete without this classic. Fashion journalist Alicia Drake chronicles the careers of Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld, including their rivalry. Starting with their professional beginnings in 1950s Paris through to their heady, get-rich disco days in the 1970s, the biography is rich in fashion trivia and juicy dish.
