Get out your flashlights for Earth Hour

The night the lights went out in Calgary.

Calgarians are encouraged to participate in Earth Hour 2010 as a city during a celebration at Olympic Plaza on Saturday in support of climate change action across the globe.

“We’re so excited for everyone to come out and we are really glad to be a part of a global effort,” EcoLiving executive director Judi Vandenbrink said of the event taking place simultaneously around the world.

While Calgarians are invited to the family-friendly multi-activity event at 8 p.m., Vandenbrink also encourages Calgarians to participate at home between 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in their own ways.

“People can turn off their lights or electricity; whatever they want to do to join the effort at home.”

Calgarians are asked to bring their mugs for hot chocolate and flashlights to the event. For more information, visit www.calgary.ca.
