Get ready for hurricane season, feds warn

While there are no storms currently coming down the pipes, Environment Canada is reminding Nova Scotians to be prepared for the hurricane season.

Chris Fogarty, program manager at the Canadian Hurricane Centre, said storm season in Atlantic Canada typically runs between August to late October. He said there are currently signs on Environment Canada’s two-week monitoring system that things might be “heating up” down south, but no storms are on their way just yet.

“It does look like the tropical Atlantic is likely to develop a couple of storms over the next few weeks,” said Fogarty. “At least, the computer models are hinting at that.” Last year’s two big storms — Bill and Danny — both hit the coast in August.
