Get to know Rioja at your local restaurant

For those who need a little bit more help exploring the thousands of varieties of wine out there, the following couple weeks might be the best time to stretch your palate. Today through May 27 is Rioja Restaurant Week, the annual event where select restaurants in New York and Chicago pair specially created dishes with a glass of Rioja wine.

“Rioja is the Napa of Spain,” says Pia Mara Finkell, Vibrant Rioja PR director. “It’s Spain’s most popular and most famous wine region.”

For Rioja Restaurant Week (which is actually two weeks, as Finkell points out), select restaurants will offer two menus, one for $25 for lunch or a $35 dinner option.

For Finkell, the benefits of offering Rioja Week are twofold. It not only gets people to experience the wine but it also helps out the restaurants. “We want to support the restaurant industry. And the best way to show our support is to set up a unique offering to get people into their seats.”
