Get your jazz hands movin’

Dazzling people of all musical tastes but not forgetting its roots, the Calgary Jazz Festival is bringing the roof down this week.

Featuring some of the best jazz artists in the world, old and new, the festival, which starts today, is sure to have Calgarians sporting “jazz hands.”

“We have more great acts than ever this year and a number of legendary jazz icons that just don’t come around that often,” Patrick Maiani of the festival told Metro.

Some notables include legendary icon Charlie Haden, Calgary boy Chris Tarry and vocal queen Beady Belle.

Maiani said the festival isn’t only one style of music.

“It’s not just for hardcore jazz fans, but we don’t forget that it is a jazz festival though.

“It’s just a lot of fun and a way to get to know the music better,” he said.

There will be free noon-hour jazz sessions throughout the week and live musicians at various venues around the city.
