Giant Tiger sorry for selling 'junior' thongs

TORONTO - One of Canada's largest discount retailers is apologizing to customers who were offended by a back-to-school flyer advertising Playboy-branded junior girls' thongs for sale.

TORONTO - One of Canada's largest discount retailers is apologizing to customers who were offended by a back-to-school flyer advertising Playboy-branded junior girls' thongs for sale.

Giant Tiger says it was a mistake for the Playboy-branded clothing to be advertised under the "back-to-school" banner and a second mistake to label them as "junior" wear.

The company, which has stores across Canada, says the Playboy attire was aimed at women, not girls, and while it won't be in future flyers, it will still be sold at Giant Tiger stores.

Giant Tiger says it received complaints from about 30 parents who were offended by the flyer, and wrote each of them to apologize.

Playboy headquarters in Chicago says the company never markets anything to people under the age of 18 and would never advertise its products under a back-to-school banner.

A spokeswoman for Playboy says, if anything, their products would be marketed under a "back-to-campus" banner to make it clear it was aimed at customers over 18.
