Tragedy interrupted a family road trip to California when a 15-year-old Calgary girl died during a rollover on a Nevada highway.

Investigators with the Nevada Highway Patrol believe the tread separated from the rear tire of the family’s Nissan Pathfinder around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, causing the driver, Mohammad Hussein Rashidy, 49, to lose control.

The three children in the back seat were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle, police said. Zahra Rashidy died while the other family members were taken to hospital.
