Calgary police say a young girl saved herself from an attempted abduction in the city’s southwest this past weekend.
A man asked the 11-year-old girl to get into his car in the Hemlock Crescent and Spruce Drive area on Saturday evening. When the girl refused, he began demanding that she come with him, swore at her and grabbed her by the back of her jacket, according to Duty Insp. Luch Berti.
The girl was able to break free and run to a safe place. “It sounds like she did the right thing,” said Berti.
The girl was not physically harmed.
Berti says the incident “doesn’t appear to be linked to anything ongoing.” However, he hopes parents will take this incident as an opportunity to have an “open and realistic” conversation about strangers with their children.
