Re: “Bus rider demands French greeting,” Dec. 10 Metro:
I enjoy my job driving the bus but I must admit it’s everything else that gets to me.
Since I’ve been driving, I’ve heard we aren’t helpful enough, we aren’t polite enough, we don’t know the city well enough, we don’t announce the stops enough, we don’t ensure bus connections enough, we aren’t driving smooth enough, we aren’t ensuring passengers safety enough, and, now, we aren’t speaking French enough.
Give us a break! Has anyone stopped to think what the operator’s job is? Our job is to drive the bus safely in order to transport passengers from point A to point B, hopefully following the route and schedule laid out for us.
There is definitely something wrong with our society if language is going to be made a priority on the bus.
