Three city organizations are encouraging Calgarians to get off their brass and donate used instruments to help bring music to underprivileged children and youth in the city.
Terry Fox Junior High School, Kerby Senior’s Centre and the Legacy Children’s Foundation have teamed up for the “Jump on the Band Wagon” musical instrument drive.
The instruments will be provided to community music programs (where needed) and financially challenged children and youth to become involved in life-enhancing music experiences.
“We started this four-and-a-half years ago and we’re still determined to help out financially challenged children,” said Darryl Wernham, CEO of Legacy Children’s Foundation.
The instruments will go to children found through social service communities, word of mouth, and advertising.
“I hope as a result of this drive, we can have lots of instruments to give to financially challenged kids in the community,” said Wernham.
Calgarians are welcome to drop off donations of “gently used” or new musical instruments at Terry Fox Junior High School and at the Kerby Centre Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
“We are all looking forward to the event as it is an exciting opportunity for our youth and the entire community to pull together,” said Don Barbor, principal of Terry Fox Junior High School.
Cash donations are also accepted.
