Global Petroleum Show for ‘all things oil and gas’

Considered the “Ultimate Energy Experience,” the Global Petroleum Show (GPS) is taking over the Stampede grounds for the next three days.

Sixty thousand registered attendees from more than 100 countries will gather at Stampede Park today through Thursday to discuss all things oil and gas. The business and technical conference is geared to both industry newcomers and veterans in the field.

“This event is becoming much more global,” said event director Wes Scott. About 400 new companies will be on show, many of which are international, he said.

“This is one of the largest expositions of its kind in the world,” said Scott.

Highlighting the GPS is tomorrow’s International Energy Ministers Forum. “Five world energy leaders are coming together to speak about global opportunities for oil and gas exploration,” said Scott.

The forum will be led by Iris Evans, Alberta’s minister of international and intergovernmental relations, and moderated by World Petroleum Council president Dr. Randy Gossen.

The GPS will be offering professionals networking opportunities with a unique Calgary twist.

Visitors to the city will be treated to a scaled down rodeo and motocross rally. “It’s fun, ‘Calgary style,’” said Scott. “It’s quite different and unique for this show.”

The large number of participants has filled Calgary and area hotels to near maximum capacity.

All GPS rooms have been sold out according to Kathy Wilkie, travel service manager.
