Tentative deal reached

Commuters who depend on GO Transit buses can breathe a huge sigh of relief — there will be no strike today.

A last-minute tentative agreement reached Friday night means “there will be no GO Transit strike on Monday,” the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1587 and GO Transit announced in a joint statement. The tentative deal came after the union, which represents 1,200 unionized bus drivers, ticket agents and office workers, and GO negotiators met with a conciliator.

Negotiators did not announce details of the new deal.

“The revised tentative agreement must still be ratified by GO Transit’s board of directors and in a membership vote by” union members, the joint statement said.
