Golden Olympic, Paralympic athletes meet Children’s Miracle kids

Canadian Paralympic and Olympic gold medalists Brian McKeever and Heather Moyse met a dozen fellow champions Monday in Ottawa, thanks to the Children’s Miracle Network.

Twelve children from across the country were selected as this year’s Children’s Miracle Network Champions, representatives of the 2.6 million kids treated at Network hospitals in Canada annually.

The Champions were scheduled for bowling with McKeever and Moyse and a private tour of the Royal Canadian Mint, where the athletes’ gold medals were made.

“You think about all the hardships they must have gone through and yet they’re here and they’re smiling and they’re very positive, and I’m sure that having an outlook like that has helped them get through with it,” said McKeever.

Moyse, who overcame injuries to win bobsledding gold in Vancouver, told the kids, “Adversity and challenges are everywhere. They’re inevitable. But because they’re everywhere, so is inspiration… If we don’t face our challenges, we’ll never discover how good we can be or how far we can go.”
