GOP’s mission in ’12: No Palin

For the GOP, Politico reports, there is only one thing more frightening than Barack Obama running for president: Sarah Palin running for president.

For the GOP, Politico reports, there is only one thing more frightening than Barack Obama running for president: Sarah Palin running for president. That’s because, in the end, party leaders fear the latter could enable victory for the former.

According to the online news source, top Republican officials are scrambling, in secret, to come up with a solution to the Palin problem. Her imminent 2012 presidential bid is a move that many GOP leaders fear would spell victory for Democrats despite steady backlash against the beleaguered president.

“There is a determined, focused establishment effort ... to find a candidate we can coalesce around who can beat Sarah Palin,” one prominent Republican told Politico, insisting on anonymity. Most Republican leaders are too wary of upsetting the Tea Party crowd to criticize Palin publicly, Politico explains.

“We believe she could get the nomination, but Barack Obama would crush her,” the official added. brayden simms
