Gosling busy ahead of Oscars

Canadian actor Ryan Gosling, who is nominated for an Academy Award for best actor, is currently working on two projects.

Fresh off his recent Best Actor Oscar nomination for Half Nelson, Canadian-born actor Ryan Gosling is certainly keeping busy. Gosling, who is also an accomplished jazz guitarist, has two films in various stages of production, the comedy Lars And The Real Girl, and the drama The Other Side. Ryan will next be seen in the thriller Fracture, about an assistant DA (Gosling) who becomes caught up in a game of cat-and-mouse with a man (Anthony Hopkins) who tried to murder his wife and is set free on a series of technicalities.

Newcomer Jill Latiano stars in the Lifetime drama pilot The Virgin Of Akron, Ohio, which kicked off production here last week. Latiano, whose previous work includes playing “Party Girl” on Sex And The City, “Singing Pirate Girl” in Epic Movie and “Blonde” on Ugly Betty, nabbed the lead role in the Fox series. It centres on Raleigh (Latiano), a young model in Manhattan who after a stint in rehab is sent back to her Ohio town to do community service and live with her dysfunctional family. The woman becomes a local celebrity after published reports say that a vision of the Virgin Mary came down to bless her following a car crash she had on her way home.

Elsewhere around town, Supernatural star Jensen Ackles was spotted at Joe Fortes restaurant recently, with a “beautiful blond” at his side, while Tom Welling was sighted sporting a long jacket and scarf as he caught up on some reading at Chapters on Robson Street.

Carter

And speaking of Tom Welling, Entertainment Weekly has revealed that one-time Wonder Woman Lynda Carter will appear on a forthcoming episode of Smallville. Carter will star as Moira Sullivan — mother to the character of Chloe Sullivan (Alison Mack) — in the episode Progeny, scheduled to air on April 12. At the same time, the WWE has announced that superstars Kane and Ashley Massaro will be the next wrestlers to make appearances on the Vancouver-shot series. They will be playing Phantom Zoners in an upcoming episode titled Combat.
