Graveyard tour proves to be a hit

History buffs were given a unique look into Vancouver’s past yesterday when the city hosted a bike tour through its oldest graveyard, Mountain View Cemetery.

“We have almost 150,000 people buried here and … you can learn about these people who built Vancouver,” said Glen Hodges, manager of the cemetery.

“A lot of the very interesting stories and events aren’t all captured in local knowledge. We had four Japanese families visit to commemorate some Japanese men who died in Canada’s worst avalanche … 100 years ago. Up until some recent research was done, nobody knew (they were there).”
