Greer Creek wildfire continues to grow

A wildfire in central B.C. has grown to about 52 square kilometres, with strong winds and dry conditions helping it spread.

Six helicopters are bucketing water and 100 firefighters are working to try to contain the blaze at Greer Creek, near Prince George.

According to the B.C. Wildfire Management Branch, an evacuation alert is in place for 30 properties.

Structural specialists are in the area to assess damage, though the fire has not reached any of the homes.

The fire danger warning remains high to extreme throughout the region.

Since April 1, firefighters have responded to 124 fires in B.C., of which 102 were caused by people.
