GATINEAU, Que. — The RCMP says it has busted a marijuana grow operation at a home in western Quebec that doubled as a daycare centre.

RCMP spokeswoman Caroline Poulin says a couple in their 50s have been arrested in Gatineau and will appear in court at a later date.

Officers found more than 40 plants in the basement of the home in the city’s Hull borough.

Poulin says the parents of the six children who attended the home daycare have been informed.

She says there were no children inside the home when police entered on Thursday night.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the children frequented the basement.

But Poulin says the children and even neighbours were likely exposed to toxic mould created by the grow-op.
