GTA bus driver facing DUI charges

Twenty people were given a wild ride yesterday as they were driven from Niagara Falls to the GTA by an allegedly drunk bus driver.

Other motorists on the QEW called police to report that the Coach Canada bus was driving aggressively, and officers stopped the Toronto-bound coach near Oakville around 7:30 a.m.

“They went on, talked to the driver. They noticed that he had been drinking, they could smell alcohol,” said OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford.

Police arrested the man, a 48-year-old from Niagara Falls, and charged him with impaired driving. He had more than the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in his bloodstream, said police. The driver didn’t hit anything during the ride and no one was injured. The passengers were transferred to another bus and taken to Toronto.
