Gun fired in pharmacy holdup

One gunshot was fired Thursday morning during a pharmacy robbery in a trendy southwest neighbourhood.

Police say two men wearing disguises and one brandishing a handgun entered The Medicine Shoppe in Mission in the 2300 block of 4 Street SW around 8:30 a.m. forcing the pharmacist to flee the shop while the men stole OxyContin and other narcotics.

“One shot was fired while the clerk had already run outside but at this point we don’t know if that was accidental or intentional,” Insp. Luch Berti said.

Witness Dan Ta was delivering drugs to the store when two men wearing Toronto Blue Jays hats ran out of the pharmacy and confronted him.

“Two guys ran out and pointed a pistol in my face and they swore at me not to do anything and ran off. It was shocking; I am not sure how I feel yet. I kind of froze up,” Ta said outside the shop.

“It’s not something that happens everyday but I guess there is a first time for everything.”

Confused customers were shocked at the news though several waited a couple hours for the pharmacy to open up again.

Although the pharmacist stayed at work he was too shaken up to talk to reporters.

The police canine unit was dispatched, but the suspects fled on foot. Police continue to look for the suspects.
