A 39-year-old man armed with a revolver held four family members hostage in their Aylmer home for four hours early yesterday morning, police allege.
A Gatineau Police SWAT team surrounded the home at 50 Riley Alley after receiving an anonymous call at 12:50 a.m. that reported an intoxicated man was threatening his mother with a gun and demanding money, said Const. Isabelle Poirier.
The mother was just leaving to get money for her son at an automatic teller when the SWAT team and canine unit arrived and surrounded the house. The man then barricaded himself inside the house along with four other people, who were all family members, Poirier said.
“The four family members were released uninjured at around 5 a.m.,” said Poirier.
She said the man, who is a resident in the home, surrendered to police at 6 a.m. He was arrested without incident.
The man, who is known to police, will likely be charged with threatening his mother and possession of a firearm, said Poirier. He will appear in Gatineau court.
His name has not been released.
