Gunfire gives man a rude awakening

A man who had several shots fired at a van he was sleeping in said he has no idea why he was a target.

But Halifax Regional Police said that, in the early stages of the investigation, the incident does not seem like a random occurrence.

Shortly before 6 a.m. yesterday, a man was asleep in his father’s van on Lakefront Drive in Dartmouth, when shots ripped through the middle windows.

The man, who did not wish to be identified, said one of the bullets tore a hole through the headrest, only inches from where he slept.

An eyewitness on the scene said he saw one man fire at the van, then run up in the direction of Joffre Street.

Police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter said another witness reported that a vehicle sped away down the street, but could not give a description.
