Gyan leaves Ghana session early with ankle knock

FRANCEVILLE, Gabon – Asamoah Gyan’s right ankle injury was not a problem after the striker left training early, a Ghana team spokesman said on Thursday.

Gyan had ice applied and the ankle strapped on the edge of the pitch soon after the warmup and walked back to the nearby team hotel.

Ghana media officer Opuku Afriyie said later the injury was not serious.

Gyan had only just recovered from a right hamstring problem to play on Tuesday in a 1-0 win over Botswana in Group D.

Ghana plays Mali and Botswana faces Guinea in the group’s second round of games on Saturday at Stade de Franceville.
